Choosing the Best Christmas Gifts When on a Budget
With a worldwide recession, many of us our feeling the credit crunch when shopping for Christmas Gifts. Instead of feeling jolly as we shop for Christmas gifts, we feel more like the Grinch with a heart two sizes too small. We wonder how we will get gifts that will please everyone on our lists while sticking to a budget. Is it really possible? We are here to tell you that it is!
Begin by asking everyone what they really want for Christmas. While this may take a bit of surprise out of what you give people for Christmas, it does cut down on spending money on gifts they won’t want or enjoy. If you are thinking about getting them a sweater but they would really rather have a new pair of pearl earrings, then you now have a new direction to look for their gift. This also saves them the inconvenience of returning your gift to buy what they really want.
Make a list of everyone you will buy a Christmas gift and ideas for their gifts. Add your Christmas gift budget at the top and begin assigning dollar amounts to each person. You’ll start to see that you can stick to your budget and get everyone nice gifts. Keep this list with you as you shop, whether in your pocket or by the computer. Cross people off the list as you buy their gift and write down the exact amount of their gifts.
Save money on things that matter less. While a youngster may have their heart set on a specific toy, they may care a lot less about what type of gift wrapping you choose. They may also not care what store you buy the toy from. These are all ideal ways you can save money. Buying gift wrapping from your local dollar store can cost you anywhere from 25% to 10% of the typical costs of regular priced gift wrap, and it still looks just as Christmassy.
Remember that Christmas is about the thought, not the price tag. If you are still having trouble with your Christmas shopping, don’t panic. The Christmas season is truly about being together with your loved ones and sharing the Spirit of the season – not about a pile of loot. Write them a letter saying how important they are to you and how glad you are they are in your life. Buy them a gift that is in your price range – that is thoughtful. The most important thing about a gift is that it is something that you thought about the recipient as you bought it. “It’s the thought that counts” is more than a saying when it comes to gifts.
